South Wales Police 'Violence Against Women & Girls' strategy

The South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner has released the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy for 2014 - 2017.

In an acknowledgement of the scale of the problem, the Strategy states that between 2012 and 2013 in South Wales there were and almost a third of all 'violence with injury' crime was domestic abuse related.

Dr Mark Farrall commented: "The Strategy quite rightly takes very seriously the higher end of the spectrum, where physical injury can be serious and is usually gendered - i.e. in a physical fight between a man and woman, the woman will usually be at much greater risk of injury.

'It is also encouraging that there is attention paid to preventative work, since research suggest the majority of intimate partner violence and abuse is not at this high end, but part of a chronic pattern of 'normalised' abusive behaviour which is still very harmful, but can be addressed"
