Motivational Interviewing in domestic abuse refuge

This week saw ignition deliver the second of two days Motivational Interviewing trianing to staff of the Nene Valley Christian Family Refuge. Recations to the training wre every positive, with one comment being that the approach will give the refuge "a point of difference with how eveyone else does it [work with victims] and help us do it better".

The sense was that the person centred strengths based approach of MI gave a way to put into practice the values of refuge work, when much such work actually takes a stance of telling victims 'what to do' rather than enabling and empowering them.
